One of the novels from the last transfer market revolved around the figure of Miguel Ángel Borja. After becoming a free agent from River, the Colombian forward began to be strongly linked with his classic rival, Boca, and it was the player himself who confirmed the rumors.
The current player of Al-Wasl from the United Arab Emirates acknowledged that there were formal contacts with the xeneize management and that negotiations progressed beyond the versions that circulated at that time. "It was real. I had conversations with executives, with Chelo (Delgado)", he assured in an interview with ESPN Colombia.
"When doors open for you, it is a result of hard work. What I did in Argentina, the goals and the titles, was something very beautiful and I think I carry that pride of saying that those great institutions knocked on my door. I was close", he added.
Boca's interest had arisen when the club was looking to strengthen its attack and Borja was seen as an attractive alternative since he was ending his contract with the Núñez team. However, the operation never materialized, and ultimately the Xeneize opted to later sign Adam Bareiro, another former Millonario.
Previously, the Colombian striker had referred to the possibility of playing at the Ribera club. "It was real, but my family and I felt it wasn't the right time to go to another club in Argentina because of how football is lived there and the well-being of my loved ones", he had commented in an interview shortly after arriving at the Arab club.
