Milei managed to ensure that Aerolíneas Argentinas closed its best economic quarter since 2008.
With fewer staff members and greater efficiency, Aerolíneas achieves record profits
Aerolíneas Argentinas reached an unprecedented economic milestone by recording, during the first quarter of 2025, a positive result of $169.012 billion. This figure includes both operating and financial results and represents the best economic performance since the company was nationalized in 2008, according to official data published by the Secretariat of Finance.
This achievement is part of the public company restructuring policy promoted by Javier Milei's government, which seeks efficiency, fiscal balance, and transparency in the use of State resources.
Record efficiency and no assistance from the Treasury
The company's positive economic result was not only the highest in nearly two decades, but it was also achieved without the need for transfers from the National Treasury. Aerolíneas informed the Ministry of Economy that it will not require public funds to operate, thus consolidating its financial independence.
One of the most notable data points is that Aerolíneas Argentinas achieved an efficiency margin of 22.78%, the highest in the past 20 years. This indicator positions the company on par with other airlines in the region with high standards of operational efficiency.
Cost reduction and staff restructuring

This economic turnaround was achieved after a deep restructuring initiated by the current management. In 2024, Aerolíneas had closed the year with a surplus of $20.4 million, and in the first months of 2025, that result multiplied, reaching $56.6 million in accounting terms.
One of the key factors was the cost reduction policy, which included a 16% decrease in the workforce, bringing the number of employees to the lowest level in 15 years. Hierarchies were eliminated and the organizational structure was significantly reduced: 8 directorates, 20 management positions, and 57 ancillary positions were cut.
Efficient state-run airline, but without waste
According to the Integrated Financial Information System for Public Companies (SIFEP), Aerolíneas was the second-best performing state-owned company in the country, by a difference of less than one million pesos compared to the first.
Union negotiations were key in this transformation process. By the end of 2024, measures aimed at improving the productivity of the fleet and operational staff were agreed upon, including both domestic and international flights.
