Milei closed the Fundación Faro event: 'We are the best government in history'

Presented by Agustín Laje, the leader of the foundation, Javier Milei received a standing ovation at the liberal event

On a night filled with political definitions, Javier Milei once again set the course for his government and for the new Argentina he proposes to build. He did so during the dinner of the Faro Foundation, the libertarian think tank led by Agustín Laje, at the exclusive Yacht Club de Puerto Madero, where he delivered a speech focused on the cultural battle, social support for reforms, and the direct fight against Kirchnerism.

The day began with the intervention of the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, who announced the creation of a "committee of 24 reformists" promoted by the Faro Foundation, with representatives from all provinces, aimed at replicating state efficiency policies at the subnational level. "Felipe Núñez will be in charge of this team," confirmed the head of the Treasury.

Agustín Laje, presenta al presidente: "Javier Milei ante todo es un amigo, es quien a impulsado la batalla cultural en Argentina, pero además, hoy es el presidente de la Nación Argentina".

When he took the floor, Milei did not avoid any topic and was direct:  "I have never set aside my role as a promoter of the ideas of liberty. Now that I am President, my responsibility for the cultural battle is even greater."

With that statement, the head of state drew a parallel between his intellectual trajectory and his current executive function. He emphasized that "social support makes reforms sustainable over time" and that it will be the citizens themselves "who defend their freedom and do not allow themselves to be trampled by socialists, whether they have good or bad manners."

"There are the very totalitarian ones and there are the friendly ones. But they are equally sinister," he warned.

In a key passage, he firmly defended the veto of the law increasing pensions:  "Those who are complaining now are the same ones who once vetoed. Since we took office, pensions have quadrupled. They are the same ones who left pensions at 80 dollars and now they are above 300. Now they come and say 'people can't make it to the end of the month.' Clearly, the phrase sounds interesting to get sentimental, but if it were true, nobody has seriously thought about that nonsense."

The president also targeted the opposition's narrative: "The 'kukas' make it seem as if they left us in Switzerland and we caused a massacre, when in reality those who destroyed and consumed the capital, impoverishing the people, were them."

In his review of his administration, he highlighted the speed with which inflation dropped, even faster than Carlos Menem, but without expropriations or the Bonex plan:  "Some people should be more careful when evaluating the current program, especially if they were complicit in or benefited from the disasters of the past. But well, life is full of ingrates."

Regarding the cultural struggle, he was emphatic: "Without the cultural battle, we are not going to be able to sustain the reforms over time. It will require continuously bringing the light, being a beacon of beacons." That phrase, which quoted the Argentine prophet Benjamín Solari Parravicini, was one of the most symbolic moments of the night.

In electoral terms, Milei projected a clear objective: the end of Kirchnerism.  "If in September we win Buenos Aires province, we will have put the last nail in Kirchnerism's coffin. This election is much more than a district. They are willing to commit fraud and vote with an electoral system that allows it. This election will be their ceiling and our floor."

He also targeted Governor Axel Kicillof, whom he called a  "spherical useless person":"He dedicates a large part of the provincial budget to feeding an army of officials with no function whatsoever. He affords the luxury of financing all the country's streaming channels, even if they have 10 views. Even he, who doesn't know much about thinking, knows how important it is to fight the cultural battle."

In one of his most challenging passages, Milei announced that he will moderate his style to expose the argumentative void of his adversaries: "I'm going to stop using insults to see if they can discuss ideas. They discuss manners because they lack the intellectual level to debate ideas. We are going to respect manners to see if they have the level to fight the battle of ideas. I challenge them."

Finally, he launched a critique with surgical precision at fiscal populism:  "What are they going to say about liberty to people who promote a fiscal hole of 2.8 of GDP? They would burn through a YPF per year. Liberty and responsibility are two sides of the same coin."
