Milei at the AMIA event: strong demands for justice and warning about Iran

One of the most tense moments occurred when Armoza addressed prosecutor Taiano and Judge Ercolini directly

President Javier Milei participated this Thursday in the main event marking the 31st anniversary of the AMIA attack, in an event marked by the demand for justice, the remembrance of the 85 fatal victims, and a stern warning about Iranian infiltration in Latin America. Accompanied by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, Minister Patricia Bullrich, and other Cabinet members, Milei took part in the tribute at the same location where, on July 18, 1994, the car bomb exploded.

The speech by the president of AMIA, Osvaldo Armoza, focused on the persistent impunity, the need for international cooperation, and the denunciation of Iranian actions through Hezbollah in the region.

"Will 30 years also have to pass?": the demand regarding Nisman

One of the most tense moments occurred when Armoza addressed prosecutor Eduardo Taiano and judge Julián Ercolini directly, who are responsible for the investigation into the death of prosecutor Alberto Nisman, asking: "In this case, will 30 years also have to pass?" He described Nisman's murder as an "open wound" and criticized the slowness of the Argentine justice system.

He also denounced the deplorable condition of the ex-SIDE files under prosecutorial custody: asbestos, flooding, and risk of collapse. He also demanded that the Supreme Court rule on the appeal filed against the acquittal of Carlos Telleldín, the last holder of the car bomb.

Strong accusation against Iran and Hezbollah

Armoza reaffirmed that Iran was the main party responsible for the attack, carried out by Hezbollah, according to Argentine justice and Interpol. He demanded that Argentina designate the Quds Forces as a terrorist organization and called on the entire region to freeze the group's assets and prevent its expansion.

He warned about Iranian advances in Latin America and questioned the recent military agreement between Iran and Bolivia. He also recalled the case of the Venezuelan-Iranian plane in 2022, which exposed the weaknesses of the Argentine security system.

A message with a global perspective

The president of the AMIA also referred to the increase in antisemitism following the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, criticizing its justification in academic circles, social networks, and democratic parliaments. He reaffirmed the Milei administration's support for Israel: "Argentina chose the right side of history."
