Milei welcomed historian Niall Ferguson: 'He is achieving an economic miracle'
The renowned intellectual Niall Ferguson visited President Milei and described his administration as an 'economic miracle.'
President Javier Milei received distinguished British historian and writer Niall Ferguson at the Casa Rosada, who is in the country as part of a visit that included meetings with members of the economic team. The meeting with the Argentine president was private and was marked by the academic's admiration for the libertarian policies promoted by the Government.
Ferguson, author of more than 16 books and a leading figure in classical liberal thought, expressed enthusiasm for the direction taken by Milei's administration. Through his account on X (formerly Twitter), he stated: "One of the most remarkable and impressive conversations I've had with any political leader anywhere in the world. Javier Milei is not only a passionate libertarian economist; he's also a visionary leader and a fearless fighter for freedom."

The president was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Economy José Luis Daza and presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni. Meanwhile, Ferguson attended with Pierpaolo Barbieri, founder of Ualá and his disciple at Harvard. Both have maintained a long-standing friendship, and Ferguson is a member of the fintech's board of directors, which explains his regular visits to Buenos Aires.
After the meeting with Milei, Ferguson and Barbieri went to the Ministry of Economy, where they were received by Minister of Economy Luis Caputo and his team. The British historian also praised the work of the economic cabinet and stated: "Luis Caputo and his team are laying the foundations for an economic miracle, working tirelessly to end their country's era of underperformance and consign Peronism to oblivion."
"Milei's madness has method"
In recent articles published in The Free Press and The Times, Ferguson compared Milei's provocative style to literary and political figures, but emphasized that behind his eccentricity there is a clear and effective economic program. "Milei's madness has its method. He's carrying out an artificial miracle that should gladden the heart of every classical economist," he wrote.

The author of works such as Kissinger: The Idealist and The Pity of War emphasized that the Argentine libertarian program is having an impact beyond South America, reviving the global debate on the role of the state, economic freedom, and the effectiveness of fiscal adjustments. "The world has never seen a more radically libertarian government than Milei's. The real miracle is that the shock therapy is working politically," he concluded.
Ferguson's visit represents a key international endorsement of the Argentine government's economic reforms and reinforces the narrative of a country undergoing deep transformation, with both local and global repercussions.
