The mayor of Minneapolis asked not to demonize transgender people after the shooting.

Meanwhile, the Democratic mayor lashed out at the Catholics who were requesting prayers for the victims of the shooting

For the ultra-Democratic mayor of Minneapolis, the city where the tragic shooting took place this morning in which an anti-Trump transgender individual killed Catholic children attending mass, he couldn't think of a better idea than to use his office to defend the trans community instead of focusing on the victims of the episode.

In a press conference held this Wednesday afternoon, Jacob Frey said that "he has heard about the great hatred being directed toward our trans community" and that "anyone who is using this as an opportunity to demonize our trans community, or any other community, has lost their sense of common humanity."

After declaring that the focus shouldn't be on the gender identity and mental state of the shooter, Frey then went on to call for greater regulation of gun ownership. "In this country, there are more guns than people. We all must recognize that we can't just say this shouldn't happen again and then allow it to happen over and over again."

What is known about the shooter.

The perpetrator of the shooting—who took the lives of two children, injured another 20 people, and then took his own life with the same weapon—was identified as Robert Westman, a 23-year-old who changed his name and had begun identifying as a woman in 2019.

The murderer's mother, Mary Grace Westman, who worked as a secretary at Annunciation Catholic School until her retirement in 2021, was the one who signed the document approving the name change from Robert to Robin, according to official documents.

On the YouTube channel associated with Westman, a video was shared showing a sticker with the trans pride flag and the phrase "Defend equality" printed on an AK-47. In the video, which has already been removed from the site, he is seen stabbing his manifesto while flipping through the pages and frantically whispering, "Nothing makes me want to stop my plans."

Frey also lashes out at those who pray for the victims.

In another part of the conference, the Democratic Party member complained about those who called for prayers for the victims of the shooting, suggesting that these people were not willing to work to find concrete solutions.

"Don't just say that right now it's only about thoughts and prayers, these children were literally praying. It was the first week of school, they were in a church," Frey said. "These are children who should be learning with their friends. They should be playing on the playground. They should be able to go to school or church in peace, without fear or risk of violence."

Catholic groups and those opposed to gun regulation replied to the mayor's statements. They pointed out that those who are not in favor of greater gun control have proposed solutions to protect schools and that Democrats like Frey have not been interested in those solutions, in addition to asking him to stop the cheap attacks against believers, especially in cases where they are the direct target of an attack
