NATO will incorporate an artificial intelligence system into its military operations
The goal is to use AI to analyze complex data and make decisions quickly and accurately
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is advancing toward the technological modernization of its combat capabilities with the incorporation of an artificial intelligence system called Palantir Maven NATO (MSS NATO).
The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) and the American technology company Palantir Technologies Inc. finalized the acquisition of this system, which will begin to be used in NATO Allied Command Operations (ACO) within the next 30 days.
The initiative represents a key advancement in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the military field and positions the Alliance as a global leader in technological innovation applied to defense. MSS NATO is a platform designed to transform the way commanders and combatants operate on the battlefield, allowing them to leverage complex data and make decisions quickly and accurately.

According to Ludwig Decamps, general manager of NCIA, the alliance with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and Palantir aims to "empower our forces with the necessary tools to operate effectively and decisively on the modern battlefield."
The platform incorporates an advanced range of AI technologies, including large language models (LLM), generative and machine learning. This allows for better intelligence fusion, target identification, battlefield understanding, and operational planning, all in real-time with a strong focus on accelerating decision-making.
Meanwhile, Shon Manasco, senior advisor at Palantir, celebrated the agreement as a demonstration of NATO's commitment to innovation and effective deterrence. "This collaboration underscores the Alliance's determination to bravely lead technological innovation," he stated.

The system not only optimizes ACO's immediate actions but will also serve as a testing and adoption platform for future technological tools within the Alliance. It was announced that SHAPE plans to use MSS NATO as a springboard to incorporate emerging capabilities such as new AI models and advanced simulations.
From SHAPE, General Markus Laubenthal, Chief of Staff, highlighted the strategic value of the tool: "Innovation is essential to our combat capability. The Maven Intelligent System allows the Alliance to leverage complex data, accelerate decision-making, and in doing so, add true operational value."
The acquisition of the system was completed in record time: only six months from the time the need was identified to its implementation, reflecting the urgency and strategic priority that NATO assigns to the digital transformation of the military environment.
