Bad news keeps coming for River. In addition to the team's poor performance and the negative results affecting the club, a new complication has arisen: Maximiliano Meza's injury, who had to leave the Superclásico against Boca showing visible signs of pain.
At the 30th minute of the match at the Bombonera, Meza slipped and suffered a direct blow to his left knee, remaining on the ground and leaving in tears. After the match, the midfielder left the stadium with a splint immobilizing his leg and was taken for medical tests.
The results confirmed that the Millonario player suffered a patellar tendon avulsion in his left knee, an injury that will require surgery. The injured area is the same one that had been surgically operated on in the middle of the year to overcome persistent physical problems.
In this context, Meza will be out of action for between three and four months, a period similar to the one he already faced this year for the same area. In the coming days, he will undergo surgery again to begin a rehabilitation process that will allow him to return in good physical condition.
Meza tendrá que ser nuevamente operado
After the Club World Cup, the former Independiente player had decided to undergo surgery for chronic tendinitis that had been troubling him for months. That procedure, performed on July 8, required between two and three months of recovery. He returned at the beginning of October, in the defeat against Sarmiento, but just a few weeks later he suffered another setback.
2025 has been especially tough for Meza physically. In February, he suffered discomfort in the patellar tendon, which kept him inactive for 16 days. In April, a new relapse sidelined him for another two weeks. In June, a minor rib fracture kept him out for 23 days, and then came the knee surgery that kept him away for 94 more days. With this latest injury, Meza will have accumulated around 198 days out of action this year.
