This Monday, the new Digital National Driver's License began to be in effect, a tool that will allow drivers to complete the renewal and extension of their license completely online in 19 jurisdictions of the country.
The new digital system, according to the national government, represents a significant advancement in administrative simplification and the incorporation of technology with high security standards.
Which districts have already joined the new system
The new modality is already in effect in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and in the provinces of Catamarca, Chaco, Chubut, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Jujuy, La Pampa, La Rioja, Mendoza, Misiones, Neuquén, Río Negro, Salta, San Juan, San Luis, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, and Tierra del Fuego.

In contrast, the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, and Formosa have not yet joined the system, although official sources indicated that the adhesion of the first four is imminent. Formosa, meanwhile, is the only one that has not expressed intentions to join, so in those jurisdictions, the procedures must continue to be carried out in person.
How the online process works step by step
Those who are eligible to use the new license must log in to lncargentina.seguridadvial.gob.ar with the user of the Mi Argentina app. Then, they must:
Validate their personal data.
Choose the procedure (renewal and/or extension).
Indicate if the license will be professional and, if so, if it is for interjurisdictional transport.
Pay the corresponding fees.
Select the authorized providers to conduct courses and exams.
Complete the course and the psychophysical exam. The results will be automatically uploaded by the providers.
Once the process is completed, the new digital license will be uploaded to the Mi Argentina app and can be presented at traffic controls as the only valid document.

Security, oversight, and alternatives
The new format was designed as a 100% digital document, with security elements superior to those of the traditional license. "Inspectors will be able to verify the validity of the license and the driver's data in real-time," stated the National Road Safety Agency.
For cases where there is no internet connection, the system allows downloading a QR code valid for 24 hours, which can also be stored via screenshot. Additionally, it is still possible to request the physical version, at an additional cost, at the corresponding License Issuing Center.
Automatic validity and benefits
Current licenses will not need to be manually renewed to access this digital version: they will be automatically updated in the Mi Argentina app. Meanwhile, those applying for their license for the first time will also receive the document in digital format and can request the printed version if they wish.
This modernization aims to streamline processes, reduce bureaucracy, and facilitate access to the mandatory documentation to circulate in the country, also promoting a more transparent and secure control system.
