New FIFA Ranking: Argentina remains at the top and sets a new record
The national team was one of the two squads that won both matches in the most recent double date, further distancing itself from its pursuers
FIFA updated its ranking of national teams and Argentina remains at the top, a position it has held for two years. Additionally, it set a new record by joining the group of the five teams that have spent the most time at the top of the ranking.
Since this ranking system was implemented in 1993, the Albiceleste became the fifth team with the longest period as leader. The absolute record remains with Brazil, which holds the two longest periods: the first of six years and eight months (July 1994 to April 2001) and the second of four years and seven months (June 2002 to January 2007).

In the historical list, Belgium is further back with a leadership of three years and four months (October 2018 to February 2022), while Spain occupies the fourth place with two years and nine months at the top (September 2011 to June 2014).
The team led by Lionel Scaloni has consolidated its position after its recent victories in the Qualifiers: a 1-0 win against Uruguay in Montevideo and a historic 4-1 victory against Brazil at the Monumental stadium. These performances have allowed it to continue leading the FIFA ranking.

Currently, Argentina leads the ranking with 1,886.16 points, after adding 18.91 units in the latest update. It is followed by Spain (1,854.64), France (1,852.71), England (1,819.2), and Brazil (1,776.03), completing the top five.
It is worth noting that, apart from England, which defeated Albania and Latvia, Argentina was the only team within the top 10 that won all its recent matches, allowing it to increase its lead over its pursuers.
