New march in La Calera: residents demand the elimination of the toll

The neighbors of La Calera protested again this Friday, July 24 against the toll on Av. Ejército Argentino. The protest demanded its definitive elimination and the fulfillment of works that the provincial government promised for the city.

The issue is a state policy in La Calera since Ordinance N° 006/CD/2026, approved unanimously by the Deliberative Council. Thousands of neighbors cross daily to Córdoba capital without an alternative route.

"The toll divides us, La Calera unites us," was the slogan heard during the mobilization.

A demand that is already state policy

The call was driven by the collective No al Peaje - La Calera and supported by the Municipality. The demonstration has been repeated for years behind the same demand: the end of a toll located in an urban area.

The neighbors emphasize the economic cost that the toll represents for those who travel daily for work, study, or health. Its placement also contradicts the original conditions of the concession.

As long as the toll continues to be charged, the neighbors demand that the committed works for the city be fulfilled. Among them, the roundabout at "El Cruce," on Route E55, and the duplication of the roadway on Av. Los Álamos.

Works still waiting

The works depend on both Córdoba and Caminos de las Sierras, the concessionaire in charge of the corridor. More than a year after the announcement, neither of the two interventions has begun.

For the neighbors, the fulfillment of the works would be just a minimal counterpart to what they pay every day at the toll. The social pressure, sustained over the years, again marks the public agenda of the city.

The demand exposes, at its core, the cost of maintaining a toll in an urban area without a road alternative. Resolving it with concrete works would be the only way to settle a debt that the city has been pointing out for years.
