The United States strengthens its alignment with Javier Milei's government and invites Argentina to a key forum on strategic minerals
In a new gesture of political and strategic alignment, the United States government invited Argentina to take part in a global meeting on critical minerals that will be held next February 4 and will be headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The invitation is taking place within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos and confirms the strengthening of the bilateral relationship between Donald Trump's administration and Javier Milei's government.
The official in charge of confirming the call was the Argentine foreign minister, Pablo Quirno, who is accompanying the President in Switzerland. As he explained, Argentina's participation aims to consolidate international cooperation and attract investment in key sectors for the country's economic development.
A new political gesture from the Trump administration toward Milei
The invitation to the meeting on critical minerals represents the second concrete gesture of political support from the White House toward libertarian Argentina. A few days ago, Trump's government had already invited the country to join the so-called Board of Peace, a body promoted by the United States for the resolution of international conflicts.
"It will be an honor to represent our country and work with international partners on strategic supply chains," Quirno stated, highlighting the opportunity that is opening up to position Argentina as a relevant player in the new global map of strategic resources.

From Washington, the focus is on reducing dependence on China for the supply of critical minerals, which are considered essential for national security and the technological development of the West.
Critical minerals and a strategic opportunity for Argentina
Argentina is emerging as a natural partner in this agenda. According to private projections, global demand for lithium will grow exponentially toward 2035, while the supply of copper could prove insufficient to cover the needs of the energy transition and global electrification.
In that scenario, the country has clear competitive advantages. Argentina is among the main countries with lithium reserves and projects under development, which positions it as a key supplier for international markets. On top of this is the potential of copper and uranium, strategic resources that are once again gaining centrality on the global agenda.
In December 2024, President Javier Milei presented the Argentine Nuclear Plan, with the objective of developing uranium reserves to supply domestic demand and project the country as an exporter, in a context of growing energy demand associated with the advance of artificial intelligence.

Davos, active diplomacy and international alignment
In parallel with the presidential agenda, Foreign Minister Quirno is carrying out intense diplomatic activity in Davos. Among the most notable meetings is a gathering with Israel's Economy Minister, Nir Barkat, in addition to contacts with authorities from the International Red Cross and representatives from the Netherlands, South Korea, Finland and Poland.
The common denominator of these meetings is the search for predictable rules, international cooperation and openness to investment, in line with the foreign policy promoted by Milei and backed by the United States.
The invitation to the forum on critical minerals reinforces that course and consolidates Argentina as a reliable partner within the Western bloc.
