Donald Trump defended the economic primacy of the U.S., asked to negotiate for Greenland, and praised the shift in Venezuela
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, was the main protagonist of the World Economic Forum in Davos. In his speech, which lasted more than an hour, he combined economic definitions, geopolitical warnings, and strong criticism of Europe.
From the beginning, Trump sought to assert global hierarchy. "The United States is the economic engine of all the nations on the planet. When the United States prospers, the entire world prospers", he stated.

Trump maintained that his administration has already "defeated inflation" and he promised growth "like no country has ever seen before". He highlighted tax cuts, investment incentives, and a tougher trade policy with the outside world.
Criticism of Europe: spending, migration, and economic direction
The American president targeted Europe's direction directly. "I love Europe and I want to see Europe do well, but it is not heading in the right direction", he said. He criticized the "constantly increasing government spending," migration policies, and intra-European trade.
According to Trump, these decisions left areas of the continent "unrecognizable", and he warned that the West will only be strong if Europe "does its part".
El Presidente estadounidense fue muy crítico con Europa y las energías verdes
Energy and the "green new scam"
One of the harshest passages was against the energy transition. "The new green scam, perhaps the greatest fraud in history", he said about renewable energy policies.
"Windmills everywhere, they destroy your land. Every time that turns, you lose 1,000 dollars", he exclaimed.
Trump cited Germany as a negative example, asserting that today it produces 22% less electricity than in 2017. In addition, he stated that energy prices in Europe are "60% higher". He also questioned the United Kingdom for not exploiting the North Sea.
Venezuela: "Venezuela is going to earn more money in the next six months than in the previous 20 years"
Trump devoted a central part of the speech to Venezuela and he defended American intervention after Nicolás Maduro's fall. "Venezuela is going to do fantastically well", he promised. "It is going to earn more money in the next six months than in the previous 20 years."
The president assured that the United States will split 50 million barrels of oil with Venezuela and will bring major energy companies to the country. "Once the attack was over, they said: "let's make a deal". More people should do that"
"The country's leadership has been very good... very, very smart".
Durante su discurso auguró un gran futuro para Venezuela y pidió la negociación de Groenlandia
Greenland: "immediate" negotiations and warnings
The highest point of tension was Greenland. Trump defended the strategic importance of the territory and he demanded immediate negotiations for its acquisition. "Greenland is a vast territory, almost completely uninhabited, located in a key strategic position between the United States, Russia, and China".
He clarified that the interest is not economic but related to security: "We do not need it for resources. We need it for strategic national security and international security".
Trump maintained that Greenland is part of North America and, therefore, "our territory".
He also issued a direct warning to Europe: "You can say yes and we will be very grateful, or you can say no, and we will remember it".
Although he stated that he doesn't want to use force, he was explicit: "If I decided to use excessive force and power, we would be frankly unstoppable. But I will not do it".
In this same vein, Trump harshly questioned Denmark for its role in NATO and he recalled the historic role of the United States in the defense of the territory. "The United States won World War II. Without us, you would be speaking German or Japanese", the president stated.
"After the war we gave Greenland back to Denmark. How stupid were we to do that? How ungrateful are they now?".

Ukraine and NATO: "I inherited a disaster"
When referring to the war in Ukraine, Trump reiterated that it is a conflict that "never should have started". "It is a war that would not have occurred if the 2020 elections had not been rigged", he added.
He again targeted the old continent: "We are thousands of kilometers away. This war should be Europe's responsibility". He also once again demanded greater contributions from NATO countries.
The statements provoked immediate responses. The French president Emmanuel Macroncalled for the rejection of "the law of the strongest". Meanwhile, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, warned that any tariff will be met in a "united and proportional" manner.
"The United States is back"
Trump closed his speech with a message of global leadership. "The United States is back. Bigger, stronger, and better than ever".
The message made it clear that his agenda combines economic pressure, redefinition of alliances, and a vision of power without hesitation. This marks a new turning point in the relationship between the United States and Europe.
