Nick Carter, from Backstreet Boys, in the eye of the storm over a new sexual allegation

A woman accused him of abuse between 2004 and 2005 and demands financial compensation in court

The singer Nick Carter, a member of the  Backstreet Boys, has been accused again of alleged sexual assault. This time, the lawsuit was filed by  Laura Penly, who claimed to have been a victim of abuse between 2004 and 2005, when she was 19 years old.

According to the complaint, Carter allegedly engaged in non-consensual sexual relations and refused to use protection despite her explicit request. Penly stated that, as a result of that encounter, she contracted sexually transmitted diseases.

Penly reported physical and psychological consequences

The woman claimed she was diagnosed with the human papillomavirus (HPV) and that this infection led to stage 2 cervical cancer in 2005. In her legal presentation, she detailed that the damages suffered were not only physical but also emotional and psychological.

As a result of these events, Penly filed a civil lawsuit  and requested compensation exceeding $15,000. She also asked for the case to be taken to a jury trial.

The complainant's lawyers stated that this process represents another step toward clarifying abuse situations in the entertainment industry, a field that has already been the scene of numerous public accusations.

Carter denied everything and spoke of a campaign against him

In response to the accusation, Nick Carter flatly denied having any contact with Laura Penly.  He claimed he doesn't know her and that her lawsuit is part of a campaign to damage his reputation.

This is not the first time the artist has been accused of sexual assault. Penly joined a list that already includes Shannon Ruth, Melissa Schuman, and Ashley Repp,  who in previous years also accused him of similar acts.

The court hearings related to the previous accusations have been scheduled for 2026. Meanwhile, Carter continues his legal defense with the support of his team of lawyers, who insist on his innocence and reject each of the accusations.

A lawsuit that coincides with the release of a documentary

The lawyers  Liane K. Wakayama and Dale Hayes, Jr. stated that Carter never had any contact with the complainant,  Laura Penly. "Nick doesn't recall ever meeting Laura Penly. He certainly never had any romantic or sexual relationship with her. Never," they asserted emphatically.

The lawsuit emerged just as the documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You, directed by Soleil Moon Frye, was released. The production arrived on Paramount+ this April 15 and once again put the Carter family's private life in the media spotlight.

The documentary addressed the ups and downs of the Carter clan, a family marked by musical success, addictions, and devastating losses. The film reviewed the tragedies that have struck the family group,  including the death of three of the five siblings: Leslie died in 2012, Aaron in 2022, and Bobbie Jean in 2023.

The lawyers insisted it was an unfounded accusation, framed in a pattern aimed at destroying the image of the former Backstreet Boys member.
