OpenAI's CEO anticipated that thousands of traditional jobs would disappear.

Sam Altman claims that AI will eliminate entire professions, but it will also open up new opportunities for progress

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and creator of ChatGPT, stated that a new era marked by the expansion of artificial intelligence has already begun. In his view, this technology will completely transform the economy and employment as we know it.

According to Altman, the development of superintelligent AI is inevitable and its impact will be so deep that many current professions will cease to exist. However, he also suggests that these changes will open doors to new forms of work and progress.

The future according to Altman

In a recent essay, Altman states that "we've already crossed the event horizon". This marks a point of no return in the advancement of AI. This transformation doesn't manifest itself with futuristic robots, but with tools like ChatGPT, which are already changing the way we work every day.

"ChatGPT is more powerful than any human being in history," he asserts. He adds that the most concerning aspect is not the total capacity of these systems, but how a minimal misalignment can generate negative effects.

Which professions are numbered?

Altman emphasizes that the speed of change will be decisive. Advances will not only continue, but will accelerate. In this context, many tasks will be performed by AI or robots.

Productivity is already soaring. Scientists claim that with the help of AI tools they are two or three times more efficient. Automation will grow so much that there will even be robots building robots or data centers replicating other centers.

The jobs we no longer miss

Altman compares the future to professions of the past. "No one wants to go back to being a lamplighter," he says, referring to those who used to light street lamps before electricity.

For him, current professions will also cease to make sense, even if at the time they seem essential. Future generations will see the world differently and will consider important tasks that we can't even imagine today.
