'Operation Midway Blitz': Trump officially launches his offensive in Chicago
The president will increase the number of ICE immigration raids in the city of Chicago
The Department of Homeland Security, under President Trump's directive, has officially launched Operation Midway Blitz, which aims to capture high-profile fugitives who are being protected by Chicago's Democratic laws.
The offensive is dedicated to the memory of Katie Abraham, a young woman who died in a traffic accident caused by an illegal immigrant, who then fled the scene. ICE agents, who have been quietly preparing in the city for more than a week, are now arresting undocumented individuals with criminal records.
Trump clarified on Monday that ICE raids are currently limited to enforcing immigration law and not to a militarization of the city, the head of state emphasized that the White House remains open to sending federal reinforcements to the urban center, but is waiting for a formal request from municipal leaders.

Trump doesn't rule out a federal intervention.
"We'd love to go to Chicago," Trump confessed on his Truth Social platform, adding that he and his team "are waiting for a call from Chicago" and that "only criminals will be hurt" during their intervention in the city.
So far, Chicago Democrats have rejected any federal presence and have even protested this initiative, labeling the American president as a "dictator." For Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and the city's mayor, Brandon Johnson, the territory they control politically is not in a security emergency.
Despite what opposition figures say, the numbers don't lie. Chicago reported 572 homicides in 2024, a figure that is the highest nationwide for the thirteenth consecutive year. During the most recent long weekend alone, nearly 60 people were reported shot, with 9 of these cases resulting in death.
Trump not only ignored these accusations, he also took them with humor. The president posted a meme titled "Chipocalypse Now," based on the iconic scene from the movie "Apocalypse Now," with the caption "I love the smell of deportations in the morning."
