Ubaldo Matildo Fillol's name is forever etched in the history of football. The legendary Argentine goalkeeper was inducted into the International Football Hall of Fame in an emotional ceremony held in Pachuca, Mexico, where he shared the stage with iconic figures from the world of sports.
"Pato," world champion with the Argentina National Team in 1978, was the only national representative to receive the distinction within the 2025 Generation, a recognition of his career, his leadership between the posts, and the values that made him an eternal icon of the goal.
During the gala, Fillol was greeted with a standing ovation as he took the stage to receive the traditional distinctive jacket that identifies Hall of Fame members. With visible emotion, the former goalkeeper took the microphone and said: "I'm truly moved, pleased, and very happy. That's why I want to thank Jesús Martínez and Antonio Moreno (Pachuca shareholder and Hall of Fame director, respectively) for giving me this opportunity. This was something I dreamed of and I wanted to be here."

True to his humble style, he dedicated the award to those who accompanied him on his journey: "I want to share this beautiful award with my family, thank you for being with me. I want to share it with all the goalkeepers present and pay tribute to such a difficult position. I also want to share it with my teammates and coaching staff from 1978, that wonderful National Team that gave our country its first title," concluded the former River goalkeeper.
Fillol's inclusion took place in a special edition of the Hall of Fame, which brought together a constellation of legends from world football. Alongside the Argentine, figures such as Diego Forlán, Dunga, Iker Casillas, Ronald Koeman, Gary Lineker, and René Higuita were inducted, among other idols who marked different eras of the sport.
