Pékerman referred to Mastantuono as Messi's heir in the Argentina National Team.
The former U-20 World Cup-winning coach states that the 18-year-old will usher in a new era after the retirement of the Rosario-born star
With his vast experience and clinical eye, José Pékerman made a prediction that had a major impact on Argentine football: he identified Franco Mastantuono as the natural heir to Lionel Messi in the senior national team. The legendary coach, who led Argentina's U-20 team to three world titles, highlighted the 18-year-old as the one who will take up the mantle after the star's farewell.
After establishing himself at River, Mastantuono signed a multi-million dollar transfer to Real Madrid, where he began to earn a place under Xabi Alonso's management. Internationally, Lionel Scaloni called him up for the first time during the last double matchday and included him again for the matches against Venezuela and Bolivia.

In an interview with DSports Radio, Pékerman was categorical: "He will make history and will make us understand that a new era is beginning. Maybe he is the one we're talking about: the team needs to be organized, but the one who will make us win is this one," emphasizing his view of Mastantuono as Messi's successor.
The young player made his official debut with the national team in June, in the victory against Chile, and since then his career has been on the rise. His goal in the last Superclásico and his quick adaptation at Real Madrid establish him as one of the most important prospects in world football.

Scaloni's support adds to Pékerman's. The Argentine coach highlighted the support Mastantuono receives in Spain: "He is handling it in a positive way, his coach and teammates have supported him and that's important. These are young players who will give us a lot in the future," reaffirming the young player as a key figure for the future of the national team.
