The Department of War announced today the official deployment of Gemini for Government, the government version of Google Cloud's AI model, as the first advanced capability integrated into GenAI.mil, the new artificial intelligence platform created to modernize military technology infrastructure.
The launch marks the beginning of a strategy aimed at consolidating an "AI-first" workforce and accelerating the widespread adoption of generative tools throughout the U.S. defense apparatus.
The initiative fulfills the mandate issued by President Donald Trump last July, in which he ordered the achievement of an unprecedented level of technological superiority in artificial intelligence.
El presidente estadounidense ordenó la obtención de la superioridad tecnológica de los Estados Unidos
According to the Department, the new AI capabilities have already been deployed on Pentagon desktops and in multiple military facilities abroad, representing a significant advance in the digital transformation of the Armed Forces.
"Gemini for Government" will be the first tool available on GenAI.mil and is designed to power workflows with intelligent agents, foster operational experimentation, and promote an institutional culture deeply integrated with AI.
The model will enable complex analysis, strategic content generation, and assistance in key tasks, providing military personnel, contractors, and civilian staff with a resource considered essential for the future digital battlefield.
"There's no prize for second place in the global race for AI dominance," stated Emil Michael, Under Secretary of Research and Engineering. He emphasized that AI represents the new technological "manifest destiny" of the United States and that the rapid implementation of these capabilities will ensure a significant strategic advantage over global competitors.
El objetivo es integrar las nuevas tecnologías a las fuerzas armadas y convertirse en un líder absoluto en la materia
The development of GenAI.mil was led by the Department of War's AI Rapid Capabilities Cell, a unit that embodies the principles of revitalizing the warrior ethos, rebuilding military capabilities, and strengthening deterrence through technological supremacy.
The Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, highlighted that the Department is "going all in" on artificial intelligence and incorporating it into the "daily battle rhythm" of the armed forces. He also stated that AI tools will open unlimited opportunities to increase operational efficiency in all areas.
As part of the deployment, free training will be offered to all Department employees, with the goal of ensuring its safe and effective adoption. Each tool included in GenAI.mil is certified to handle CUI information and IL5 security levels, conditions considered suitable for operational use.
Pete Hegseth aclaró que Estados Unidos le dará prioridad absoluta al desarrollo de la Inteligencia Artificial en las fuerzas armadas
The "Gemini for Government" tool also integrates retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities and verification based on secure searches, reducing the risk of errors and increasing the reliability of its responses.
The launch of GenAI.mil thus stands as a central milestone in the artificial intelligence revolution driven by the United States. With this platform, every warfighter will be able to use cutting-edge AI as a force multiplier, reinforcing the strategic objective of maintaining U.S. supremacy in the development and deployment of advanced defense technologies.
