Within the framework of the presentation of the second maritime patrol aircraft P-3C Orion at the Aeroparque Naval Air Station, Defense Minister Luis Petri reaffirmed on Wednesday the decision of Javier Milei's government to move forward with the recovery of submarine capability for the Argentine Navy, a goal that had been abandoned for more than a decade.
“We're going to recover a capability we lost a long time ago, the submarine capability, and there is the unbreakable will to do so,” Petri stated during his speech, following the presidential confirmation that Argentina is negotiating with France for the purchase of new submarine units.

The minister stated that the plan is part of a comprehensive strategy to “guard and protect the resources of Argentinians and, essentially, Argentinians themselves,” and recalled that the country is once again on course after decades of disinvestment: “We achieved it after decades, after those who had the responsibility to lead the country's destiny and laughed in our faces.”
The event was attended by the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Brigadier General Xavier Isaac; the Chief of the Navy, Vice Admiral Carlos María Allievi; the Chief of the Army, Lieutenant General Carlos Presti; the Ambassador of Norway, Halvor Sætre; and the new United States Ambassador, Peter Lamelas, reflecting the Argentine government's growing alignment with Western democracies and the ongoing military modernization.
