PJ and UCR in Córdoba: different parties, but increasingly similar in practice

With the endorsement of Radical mayors for Schiaretti, a coalition is growing that prioritizes financial resources over party identity

Córdoba's Peronism and the UCR are showing an unprecedented fusion in provincial politics.Radical mayors are openly supporting Juan Schiaretti's ticket. The party line is blurring, making it clear that power prevails over convictions.

The Provincias Unidas ballot, which Schiaretti leads at the national level, displays open support from boina blanca leaders. Three of the six governors involved come from the UCR, with Pullaro, Sadir, and Valdés at the forefront. The coalition reflects a pragmatism focused on maintaining power and financial resources.

The Casa Radical is experiencing tensions due to these moves. Ramón Mestre is trying to maintain a presence, but even historic leaders are absent from his events. Meanwhile, private conversations between radicals and Peronists are multiplying with 2027 in mind.

An agreement that prioritizes power

At the Panal, they are envisioning a timeline that guarantees Martín Llaryora's continuity. The plan includes his provincial reelection and a strong radical in the Capital. This is a scheme that organizes candidacies based on power calculations rather than ideological differences.

The key would be to separate the provincial elections from the municipal elections in Córdoba Capital. This way, Llaryora would seek to secure the Panal and leave room for a radical. The most talked-about name is Rodrigo de Loredo, as long as he breaks with Luis Juez.

That split is a priority for the ruling party: the radical-juecista alliance of 2021 and 2023 and the emergence of LLA are making Peronism uncomfortable. Dividing it is a central condition for imposing the timeline. The result would be a pact where PJ and UCR compete for financial resources but share the administration of power.

Looking ahead to 2027

Initial polls place La Libertad Avanza ahead of Schiaretti. Natalia de la Sota's figure appears as the only loose end in the PJ. However, the main strategy of the expanded cordobesismo is to isolate Juez and attract radicals with local ambitions.

The background of this framework is clear. The historical differences between PJ and UCR are fading in the face of the ambition to perpetuate structures. In Córdoba, the real fight is not over different projects, but over who controls the financial resources and secures their place in 2027.
