A police officer shot a dangerous 16-year-old motorcycle thief who tried to rob him in La Plata.
The deceased criminal had a record of previous arrests at various police stations in the area
Yesterday, at the intersection of 68th and 135th streets in Los Hornos, La Plata area, an officer of the Bonaerense Police shot and killed a motorcycle thief who attempted to rob him. According to the information revealed, the violent criminal was 16 years old and had prior records. He was taken to a local hospital, where he ultimately died.
The alert about the incident reached 911, and officers from the 3rd Police Station of La Plata arrived at the scene. There, they found the police officer, a 29-year-old official, who reported that he was riding a motorcycle with his girlfriend when he was approached by two motorcycle thieves.
According to his statement, the criminals attempted to steal his vehicle. The officer immediately identified himself as a member of the force and, upon receiving threats with a firearm, drew his service pistol and fired shots. One of the strikers was hit in the waist area, and the other managed to escape.

An ambulance transported the injured criminal to San Martín Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. However, the incident led to the opening of a case in UFI No. 4 of La Plata under the charge of "attempted homicide", so the police officer was detained.
The prosecutor's office ordered the seizure of the service weapon used and also the motorcycle that the criminal attempted to steal. Meanwhile, the Internal Affairs division of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security initiated an administrative investigation.
The criminal background of the dangerous offender
Around midnight, the assailant died in the hospital. He was identified as Thiago R., 16 years old, with a history of previous detentions in various police stations in the area.

According to official records, Thiago had been detained twice so far this year: on April 24 and again on May 9 by officers from the same 3rd Police Station. He was accused of attempted robbery, group robbery, and resisting authority. On both occasions, despite being of prosecutable age, he only remained deprived of liberty for one day.
In the May incident, according to the police report, he attempted to rob a paint store located on 66th Street, just a few blocks from where he was ultimately shot. He was accompanied by three accomplices aged 15, who were not prosecutable due to their age. The loot was minimal: an old monitor and a one-liter bucket of paint. In the April case, also in the same area, he had been arrested along with another 17-year-old thief with a warrant for multiple robberies.
