President Javier Milei led the swearing-in ceremony for Pablo Quirno as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship at Casa Rosada this Tuesday, replacing Gerardo Werthein, who had submitted his resignation a few days earlier.
Quirno, who had served as Secretary of Finance until now, formally assumed the position of Foreign Minister following the acceptance of Werthein's resignation, effective October 27. The new minister was one of the closest collaborators to the head of the Ministry of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, and played a central role in Milei's government's economic strategy during the initial phase of the libertarian administration.

Quirno's inauguration takes place within a broader restructuring of Argentina's foreign policy, aimed at strengthening ties with the West and expanding trade agreements with the country's main partners. The newly appointed Foreign Minister indicated that one of his objectives will be to deepen Argentina's openness to the world, attract investments and create opportunities for national producers.

In an official statement released last week, the Office of the President announced the change and highlighted Werthein's role in signing the "largest bilateral agreement in history" with the United States, and underscored his contribution to strengthening the relationship with that country. Milei thanked the outgoing official for his commitment and professionalism during his tenure.
Quirno, considered a key figure in the economic team that drove the Argentine miracle, arrives at the Foreign Ministry with the mission of coordinating foreign policy with the economic and financial guidelines of Milei's government. His appointment marks a stage in which Milei's administration seeks to integrate diplomacy and the economy to enhance the country's international presence and consolidate its full reintegration into the West.
