The National Assembly sworn in Mercedes Caicedo as the new president of the Judicial Council (CJ), the body responsible for the administration and control of the Judicial Branch in Ecuador.
The appointment was made after its selection by the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control, based on a list sent by the National Court of Justice.
During his first speech, Caicedo stated that his administration will be focused on strengthening judicial independence, ensuring transparency and combating corruption within the system.

The new incumbent warned that she will not allow pressure or the misuse of her name for external influences, and she assured that her administration will not
respond to private interests.
Caicedo also presented the axes of his management, including meritocracy, technological modernization and strengthening of the judicial service.
He took office until 2031, replacing Mario Godoy, who was dismissed by the Assembly in February 2026.
