Amazon will invest over US$2 billion in Latin America to expand content, sports, and local infrastructure

Prime Video announced an investment of over US$2 billion in Latin American entertainment between 2027 and 2030, focusing on content, sports, and infrastructure.

The plan includes Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Chile, as well as new options for subscription, rental, and purchase in other countries in the region.

How Prime Video will invest in Latin America

The Prime Video plan aims to double its local original production by 2030 and expand its coverage of live sports.

The investment will also reach digital stores and local creative infrastructure in Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Chile.

The company also seeks to expand subscriptions, rentals, and purchases of third-party content in six new markets: Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, and Argentina.

In those territories, users will be able to access these options without needing a Prime membership.

The platform announced more than 25 new titles for 2027, including scripted series, movies, unscripted productions, and reality formats.

In live sports, Prime Video expanded its NBA coverage, strengthened its rights over Brazilian football, and secured a four-year agreement for 38 home matches of the Mexican National Team.

The agreement will begin in September and is part of the platform's expansion of its sports offerings in the region.

Prime Video's focus will also be on local talent

The company also announced programs aimed at training teams that work behind the scenes. Among them is "Brasil no Set" and a new training initiative in physical and post-production skills in collaboration with the SAE Institute of Mexico.

In Mexico, a partnership with By Invitation Only and acting schools brought together emerging talents for a professional development workshop.

Participants had the opportunity to perform in front of casting directors and agents. Scholarships were also awarded to underprivileged students.

“We are not only producing content in Latin America, we are investing in talent and creative partnerships that will help shape the future of Latin American stories,” said Tomás Tejero, regional head of Latin America and Canada for Prime Video.

What Prime Video said about the investment of over US$2 billion

The announcement was made during a presentation event in Mexico City, led by senior executives of the company.

“What is happening in Latin America right now is extraordinary: the talent, the stories, the audiences. Today we accompany that energy with over US$2 billion until 2030 in original and licensed programming and sports,” noted Kelly Day, international vice president of Prime Video.

Day also highlighted that the plan is not concentrated in a single country or genre, but encompasses different forms of consumption of the platform in the region.

For her part, Javiera Balmaceda, head of international originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, stated: “Our job is to find stories that are undeniably local and make them undeniably universal.”
