The Parisian club is demanding €180 million in compensation for 'loss of opportunity,' while the forward is claiming €240 million for contract, pressure, and unpaid salaries

The conflict between Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé has added a new legal chapter. The Parisian club filed a lawsuit demanding compensation of 180 million euros from the forward (198 million dollars), alleging a "loss of opportunity" linked to the player's refusal to accept a multimillion-dollar transfer offer in July 2023 from Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia. According to PSG, that decision thwarted a key deal for its finances.
The club's filing comes as a direct response to the claim initiated by the current Real Madrid player, who is demanding 240 million euros (264 million dollars) for contractual reclassification, damages resulting from moral harassment, and a debt of 55 million (60.5 million dollars) corresponding to unpaid bonuses and salaries.
During the hearing held in a Paris labor court, the player's lead attorney, Delphine Verheyden, described a scenario of numerous, constant, and disproportionate pressures exerted by PSG after Mbappé's decision not to renew his contract until 2025.
Mbappé decidió no renovar con el PSG
According to Verheyden, the agreement that the club claims to have reached with the player to extend the contract "is not valid" because it was never ratified by labor authorities. She also stated that her client endured a "horrible period" after being warned that he would not play again if he did not sign the renewal.
This conflict dates back to the European summer of 2023, when Mbappé was separated from the first team at the start of the season due to his stance of fulfilling his contract until 2024, with no intention of extending it. He was later reinstated in the starting line-up, a decision that, according to PSG, was made as part of an agreement in which the player would have given up part of the amounts owed to avoid harming the club's finances. The player's defense categorically denies that agreement.
Verheyden also denied the existence of a formal offer for Mbappé to play in Saudi Arabia: "On July 22, a Saudi club offered to buy Kylian Mbappé for 300 million euros (330 million dollars). The offer was valid until midnight on July 25(2023). But I never saw it on my desk; it was never presented to him," she said.
Mbappé habría recibido una oferta para jugar en Arabia
After his contract with PSG expired without renewal, Mbappé finally signed with Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, leaving no transfer income in Paris. The forward's lawyers argue that, if his contract had been considered indefinite, as they claim, and adding damages, the total compensation would amount to 240 million euros (264 million dollars).
The dispute continues in the courts and represents one of the most high-profile legal battles between an elite club and one of the greatest stars in world football today.
