The Colombian's return to the Núñez team reignited the controversy over a broken agreement between the Academia and Los Diablos Rojos

The return of Juanfer Quintero to River not only shook up the market, it also reignited a conflict that had been simmering since the beginning of the year. When the Colombian left Racing to join América de Cali, both management teams had sealed an informal but explicit agreement. Diego Milito and his team had requested that, at least in the short term, the midfielder not return to the country to play precisely for the club that now has him back on its roster.

Six months later, everything happened contrary to what was agreed. At the direct request of Marcelo Gallardo, Quintero returned to the Millonario, exposing a breach that those in Avellaneda never fully accepted. Racing's management let the months go by, but with the end of the year approaching, it decided to file a formal claim in which they demand three million dollars from América de Cali for violating the clause that had been agreed upon at the time of the transfer.

The Colombian club, however, doesn't intend to let the claim go unchallenged. According to journalist Pipe Sierra, the delegation led by Tulio Gómez is already preparing its defense with two main arguments. The first will appeal to the right to work, arguing that no clause can condition a footballer's employment destination. The second will invoke FIFA's regulation on TPI (third-party influence), which prohibits an outside club from interfering or imposing conditions on a transaction between two institutions.

The final transfer that resulted in the Colombian's return to Núñez was closed at 2,250,000 dollars for 100% of the rights, a figure very close to what América had paid Racing at the beginning of 2025. With a contract at River until December 2027, Juanfer will continue his third spell at the club where he performed best, while la Academia and los Diablos Rojos are preparing to settle in the offices a conflict that arose precisely from his return.
