Governor Raúl Jalil led the reception of the International Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which arrived in the province to assess local progress in mining transparency. The visit is part of the program's second validation in Argentina.

Accompanied by the Minister of Mining, Marcelo Murúa, and the Director of Mining Promotion and Social Responsibility, Yésica Yornet, Jalil emphasized that Catamarca "keeps a strong commitment to international standards of governance and responsibility."

International assessment and multisectoral dialogue

The EITI delegation was composed of Riley Zecca, senior outreach team officer, and Jessica Buendía Sánchez, officer for Latin America and the Caribbean, who highlighted that "Catamarca has made significant progress in terms of social commitment and accountability."

Over two days, the international representatives participated in an intensive agenda that included a visit to a lithium project, meetings with chiefs of indigenous communities, meetings with private companies, and a visit to the facilities of the state-owned company CAMYEN.

Transparency and social participation

Yésica Yornet valued the exchange that took place: "Each meeting made it possible to assess how the transparency standard is applied, and the different stakeholders were able to identify opportunities for improvement to achieve higher levels of accountability," she stated.

The meeting reinforced the vision of Catamarca as a province committed to sustainable, competitive, and transparent mining, aligned with the principles of responsible development promoted by EITI worldwide.

Catamarca, pioneer in the EITI standard

Catamarca formally joined the international program in 2023 and became one of five Argentine provinces that are part of the federal transparency framework in the extractive industry, along with Santa Cruz, Salta, San Juan, and Mendoza.

"EITI ensures that the management of natural resources is carried out with public, verifiable, and accessible data, which strengthens social trust and the sector's institutional framework," provincial Executive officials highlighted.

Commitment to responsible mining

With this visit, Governor Jalil reaffirmed his political decision to establish Catamarca as a national example in mining transparency, promoting a development model based on open information.
