As another sign of the opening of the arms market in Argentina, the National Firearms Registry (RENAR), under the Ministry of Security, announced the complete digitization of the process to obtain the Legitimate User Credential (CLU). From now on, any citizen can manage this permit entirely online, without the need to travel or complete in-person procedures.
The announcement was made by the director of RENAR, Juan Pablo Allan, through his official X account (formerly Twitter), where he emphasized that this advancement allows you to "obtain your CLU from anywhere in Argentina, only with your cell phone." The system is already available on the official website mirenar.minseg.gob.ar, and aims to reduce processing times and simplify procedures.
What is the CLU and what is it for?
The Legitimate User Credential is the document that authorizes a person to acquire, possess, and transport firearms in the country legally. Issued by RENAR, the CLU means that the holder has met all the required legal conditions: clean criminal record, psychophysical fitness, safe firearms handling course, and justification for use or possession.

Without this credential, any possession or purchase of firearms is considered illegal. This highlights the importance of facilitating access to this document, especially in a country with high levels of bureaucracy and a restrictive tradition regarding self-defense.
A measure in line with the Government's vision
The digitization of the CLU is part of a broader national Government policy, which proposes greater individual freedom regarding self-defense and legal possession of firearms.
