After Claudio Úbeda's departure, the xeneize management began the search for a coach. Among the main candidates is Vasco, who has a recent history in Middle Eastern football.
Following the confirmation of the departure of Claudio Úbeda, the search for a new coach is one of the main priorities at Boca. While the management analyzes different alternatives for the second half of the year, one name has started to gain traction over the others: Rodolfo Arruabarrena.
The former defender and ex-coach of the xeneize appears as the most talked-about candidate to take the position, driven by the support he would have within the leadership headed by Juan Román Riquelme. If realized, it would mean his return to the club a decade after finishing his first term in charge of the team.
The "Vasco" managed the club from the Ribera between 2014 and 2016, a period in which he won the First Division championship and the Argentine Cup in 2015. However, his tenure was also marked by some painful eliminations against River, especially in international competitions. Beyond this, he had a great record: 47 wins, 13 draws, and 15 losses in 75 matches, with 126 goals for and 60 against.
Arruabarrena had a decent stint at Boca, but it was overshadowed by River's good form at that time.
After leaving the club, the Vasco spent much of his coaching career in the Middle East. He managed Al-Wasl, Al-Rayyan, Shabab Al-Ahli, Pyramids FC, and also had an experience leading the United Arab Emirates national team.
His last job was at Al-Taawoun in Saudi Arabia, where he managed from mid-2024 to early 2025. Since then, he has been without a team, a situation that would facilitate a potential negotiation with Boca if the management decides to formally pursue his hiring.
At Brandsen 805, they acknowledge that the selection process has just begun and that there is still no official decision. However, Arruabarrena's name meets several of the requirements sought by the Football Council: he knows the club's structure, has experience in the role, and maintains a historical identification with the institution.
Arraubarrena comes from coaching for several years in Middle Eastern football.
The management aims to resolve the succession in the coming weeks so that the new coach has time to plan for the second half of the year and tackle the upcoming sporting challenges. In the meantime, Arruabarrena positions himself as the candidate with the most internal consensus and currently has an advantage to become Boca's next head coach.

In addition to the "Vasco," another name that has been strongly mentioned in recent days to take over at Xeneize is Cristian González. In an interview with ESPN, the "Kily" spoke about the supposed interest of the blue and gold team in him and stated that he would like to coach it.
Kily González wants to coach Boca.
"Who doesn’t dream of coaching Boca? Yes, I was lucky to play at that wonderful club and yes, it moves you, how could it not move you? Every time I log in (to social media), I see and hear that 'Kily is Riquelme's choice,' all that football chatter...", he assured.
