Canalla remains hopeful of signing Fideo after Benfica's participation in the Club World Cup, when he will become a free agent
The management's intention is to move forward with negotiations over the coming weeks, even while the Club World Cup is being played. Unlike last year, when threats to his family prevented a possible return, this time the outlook is more favorable and both parties are optimistic about his return to the club where he began his career, 18 years later.
After Benfica's 3-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese Cup final, Di María was visibly moved as he said goodbye to the Portuguese club. In that context, his wife, Jorgelina Cardoso, posted a heartfelt message on social media with a detail that did not go unnoticed among Canalla fans.
The last sentence of her post includes the expression "I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY STRENGTH" written in all caps and framed by a blue heart and a yellow heart, Rosario Central's colors. She also made it clear that her husband doesn't intend to hang up his boots.
"If there's one thing I'm more convinced of every day, it's your desire to always win, every match and every final as if you had never won anything. That's what makes you great, always wanting more and never settling, not even with being world champion, two-time champion of America, and having 36 titles. Lift your head, your crown is slipping, king. We must keep fulfilling dreams, the book still has blank pages," she wrote.
Rosario Central's management still has hope and has already submitted a formal offer to Ángel Di Maria and dreams of making his return happen after the Club World Cup, which the player will compete in with Benfica.
El Fideo, world champion and historic figure of the Argentina National Team, confirmed that he will leave the Portuguese club as a free agent after the international tournament to be held in the United States, where the Águilas will share a group with Boca.
Just as in 2024, the Canalla acted quickly to try to convince him to return at 37 years old. Gonzalo Belloso, current club president and former teammate of the Rosario native almost two decades ago, has already submitted an initial official proposal. In addition, in recent days, Di María spent time in Rosario with his family for the birth of a nephew.
