Crisis at San Lorenzo: rumors of a possible return of Marcelo Moretti are growing
The licensed president could return soon despite the widespread rejection from the fans and some club officials
San Lorenzo is going through one of the most serious institutional crises in recent years and, amid this situation, a rumor that had already surfaced in recent weeks has resurfaced strongly. Marcelo Moretti is reportedly considering resuming the presidency in the coming days, even in the face of massive fan rejection and internal criticism following the alleged bribery scandal.
According to various club sources, the executive plans to end his leave of absence this Thursday, right after the match against Vélez at the Nuevo Gasómetro for the fourth round of the Torneo Clausura. If this happens, it would mark his formal return to leadership in a context of managerial chaos, with no new signings, unsolved bans, and an increasingly deep economic crisis.
The influence of AFA and the halt to the removal
This scenario can't be understood without the role the AFA played in this scandal. San Lorenzo's Ethics Tribunal had issued a ruling recommending Moretti's suspension and referring his removal to the Assembly. However, from Viamonte Street, a strong message was sent, since if the club proceeded with that meeting, it could face severe disciplinary sanctions.

That warning led the board to suspend the Board of Directors meeting that was supposed to determine the institutional future. From the interim presidency, there was talk of "institutional responsibility," although for many it was clearly external pressure. This reinforced the idea that Claudio Chiqui Tapia continues to support Moretti, even though much of the San Lorenzo community is demanding his immediate departure.
Internal opinions on his return
Within the club itself, there are executives who have already made their positions clear. Martín Cigna, San Lorenzo's secretary, was blunt: "I'm never going to be Secretary again if Marcelo Moretti returns to the club. I have made up my mind and I won't go back," he stated on Radio La Red.

Meanwhile, Julio Lopardo, current interim president, has reiterated his view on Moretti's future on several occasions: "Moretti must resign because he faces the worst condemnation, which is social. This club doesn't forgive you. We must follow the paths set by the Statute and let him solve his problems; we must take care of the club, which is in a very difficult situation."
