Santa Fe Elections 2025: voter turnout by noon was below 20%

The polling stations opened at 8 a.m. and more than 2.8 million Santafesinos are eligible to vote

This Sunday, elections are being held in the province of Santa Fe, where local legislative positions and representatives for the Constituent Convention are being elected.

However, the polling stations opened at 8 a.m., and although more than 2.8 million residents of Santa Fe are eligible to vote, so far the turnout has been very low, according to the provincial electoral secretary, Pablo Ayala.

In this instance, citizens are participating in the Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory Primaries (PASO) to define candidacies at the municipal and communal levels. Meanwhile, the electorate will select those who will join the Convention that will reform the Constitution of Santa Fe. 50 convention members will be elected through a single district and one from each of the 19 departments of the province. This election will be held in a single instance, with no runoff or second round.

According to the first official data released by the authorities, only 19% of eligible citizens approached the polls. These figures correspond to the cut made at 11:30, and it was expected that the flow of voters would increase during the afternoon, although this did not seem to be the case.

Despite the good weather conditions, attendance at the polls was low during the early hours of the day and continued to be low until after noon. The authorities in charge of the electoral process are confident that the turnout will improve throughout the afternoon, according to the newspaper La Capital.

Both the ruling party and the opposition expressed concern about the low level of citizen participation. It is expected that the final number of voters will be below the usual average. The concern lies in the fact that the results of this day will be key to defining the political direction of the province.

Pullaro's ruling party is aiming to achieve a majority within the Constituent Convention, while opposition sectors are trying to strengthen their representation with a view to the general elections. The first provisional count data is expected to begin being released starting at 7:30 p.m.

The final distribution of seats will be known once the definitive count is completed. The Political Electoral Observatory of the National University of Rosario (UNR) will be monitoring the development of the electoral process.
