Scandal in San Lorenzo: What Moretti said after the bribery accusation

The president of Ciclón clarified that he is not going to resign, that the 25,000 dollars were a 'donation,' and that everything was orchestrated by the opposition

Marcelo Moretti decided to speak publicly on TyC Sportsafter the serious accusation against him, stemming from a hidden camera that would implicate him in receiving a bribe of U$S 25,000 for the signing of a youth player to San Lorenzo. In his defense, the official claimed it was a "donation" and stated he was a victim of "people who want to set him up."

In his interview with the program Presión Alta, the club president stated: "There are people who want to set me up, since last year they have been extorting me, I will file a self-report for influence peddling and unfaithful administration. I will present myself to a judge because I have no connection or anything to do with this case. The money that was seen yesterday, as soon as I received it, and these people left, I deposited it into the treasury."

Details of the video and the figure of Scottini

During his statement, Moretti explained the details of the case and mentioned the woman who appears in the video recorded in March 2024: "This person, who is María José Scottini, owner of media in La Plata, was brought to me to make a digital agreement with San Lorenzo, there she tells me that her son is in San Lorenzo. I received her for the digital matter, it's a donation. It's not a bribe, because the money entered the club."

He also identified the youth involved as Simón Coronel, category 2007, who, according to his testimony, never officially appeared on any roster during the participation of the seventh division in the AFA tournament. In that same campaign, Uriel Ojeda stood out, a young promise promoted to the first team by Miguel Russo, under the command of Hernán San Martín, who had a strong dispute with Néstor Ortigoza, responsible for the football area at that time, and Marcelo Romano, coordinator of the youth divisions, during the past year.

Personal funds and political accusations

Moretti also recounted that he made a personal contribution to the club to show how funds are channeled within the institution, mentioning a recent episode: "Yesterday I put U$S 10,000 from my pocket, I don't know why, for San Lorenzo."

He added: "Moreover, San Lorenzo at one point owed me a lot of money, and I could have even said: 'Guys, here this woman donated U$S 25,000, I'll keep it on account of what they owe me,' which I didn't do, but it wouldn't have been wrong. It wouldn't have been wrong, it wouldn't have been wrong either."

He also directly accused two figures closely linked to the club's recent history: "Lammens and Tinelli are behind all this," he said about the former presidents, with whom he shared management for almost a decade, until becoming a strong opponent after his departure from the board of directors.

Asked about the reasons behind the appearance of the video, Moretti attributed it to a political maneuver: "To remove me from San Lorenzo, if this person was without collecting the money for a year and suddenly, in the best political moment of the club and Moretti's management is growing and getting better every day, the video appears, it's because it's political."

The refusal to resign and the defense of his management

Regarding his future, he was adamant in dismissing a possible resignation. "How am I going to resign? I will never resign, with all the work I've done, with everything I've done in the club and all the money that we and the vice president (Navarro) have put in, people who have supported us. It's impossible, besides San Lorenzo is doing well. Anyone who takes over the club... that club will never be operational," Moretti commented.

The head of San Lorenzo referred again to the concept of "donations", defending his actions as legitimate and denying any irregularity or crime at all times. He also confirmed that Coronel, Scottini's son, was at the club after the events recorded in the video, which he reiterated corresponds to March 2024. Regarding the accounting record of the money's entry, he clarified: "The second semester, yes. I don't remember (the amounts of the balance), I don't have the papers. It would be a mistake, all the papers are there, don't worry."
