Scioli and CLIA drive the growth of cruise tourism in Argentina

In 2025, more than 35.7 million passengers are expected globally, a record for the industry

Within the framework of Seatrade Cruise Global 2025, the world's most relevant cruise fair, Argentina took a strategic step to establish itself as one of the key destinations in the region.

At the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Secretary of Tourism, Environment, and Sports of the Nation, Daniel Scioli, led a high-level meeting with representatives of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), as part of an agenda aimed at boosting the arrival of cruises to the country.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures in the sector such as Bud Darr, CEO of CLIA Global, Marco Ferraz, President of CLIA South America, and Juan Pablo Maglier, Argentine representative to the organization. The main objective of the meeting was to outline a common roadmap to strengthen the industry in Argentina.

A joint commitment to the growth of the sector

"Argentina has all the potential to become a regional cruise hub," said Scioli, adding that a federal agenda is being worked on with provinces, municipalities, and the private sector to improve the visitor experience. Meanwhile, Ferraz stated that CLIA keeps "constant conversations with Argentine authorities to encourage cruise activity in the country," highlighting the national government's commitment to the sector's development.

Among the main topics addressed during the meeting were:

  • Investments in port infrastructure.
  • Reduction of operational costs and simplification of procedures.
  • Improvement in passenger experience.
  • Environmental challenges, including the energy transition.

A diverse and representative delegation

The Argentine delegation included national and provincial officials and representatives from the tourism-port sector.  Participants included members of INPROTUR, the National Agency of Ports and Navigation, Terminales Río de la Plata, the ports of Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia, INFUETUR, the Buenos Aires City Tourism Board, and representatives of CLIA South America and Argentina.

From Scioli's entourage, they emphasized that "the active participation of all actors demonstrates the willingness to build a comprehensive tourism policy, focusing on economic development and job creation."

Encouraging projections in the sector

According to CLIA data, it is expected that in 2025, more than 35.7 million passengers will be reached globally, a record for the industry. In this context, Argentina seeks to capitalize on its natural, geographical, and logistical potential to become a competitive destination within the global cruise map.

Argentina's participation in Seatrade Cruise Global 2025 reinforces this vision and consolidates the willingness to integrate the country into a dynamic, sustainable international tourism ecosystem with long-term prospects.
