Trump's official confronted a Democratic senator who criticized him for supporting Milei's government in Argentina

The United States Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, published a message on social media in which he harshly criticized Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and described communist candidate Zohran Mamdani as "Peronist," who is seeking to become the next mayor of New York.

In his message on X, Bessent began with an ironic remark toward the senator from Massachusetts: "Few should be surprised by Elizabeth Warren's self-pitying interpretation of 'Don’t Cry for Me Massachusetts'." From there, he emphasized that the economic policies Warren has promoted since her arrival in the Senate in 2013 "rival the failed leftist agenda of the Argentine opposition."

The Treasury Secretary went further by labeling Zohran Mamdani as "Peronist" and warning that if he becomes mayor, he could replicate the model of decline. "If his political soulmate and fellow American Peronist, Zohran Mamdani, becomes mayor of New York City, I'm sure the senator will request a financial bailout when he drives the city into bankruptcy," he stated.

With this statement, Bessent directly linked Mamdani's economic vision to Argentine Peronism, known for its historic combination of high public spending, subsidies, and high taxes.

Bessent also recalled Warren's influence on the previous administration's economic policy: "Senator Warren played a leading role in driving the discredited left-wing economy of the Biden administration from behind the scenes and did not act when presented with a historic opportunity to stabilize Latin America economically and geopolitically during the Obama years."

In another part of the message, he replied to the senator's criticism of hedge funds, inviting her to "join the Treasury's financial education program." He explained that the hedge funds that "attacked Argentine assets in recent months" suffered losses, while "the long-term mutual funds and pension funds that invest on behalf of American workers benefited."

Bessent's words marked a clear challenge to the leftist model represented by Elizabeth Warren and Zohran Mamdani, and a warning about the serious consequences that an administration inspired by "Peronism" could have for New York.
