In addition to the possible return to Boca, the Colombian spoke candidly about his great moment, his past, River's interest, and his dream of playing in the World Cup with his national team.

Sebastián Villa is going through one of the best moments of his career. After a standout semester with Independiente Rivadavia, where he was one of the figures of the Torneo Apertura and the Copa Libertadores, the winger broke his silence and referred to his current football situation, his recent history, the interests of River and Boca and his desire to play in the World Cup with the Colombian National Team.

In an interview with TyC Sports, the forward highlighted the process he is experiencing in Mendoza, which he defined as key to his personal and professional reconstruction. "I am happy with what we have done here, not only at the national level but also internationally. It is a very beautiful process. We are a very humble team and no one believed in us, but we have a lot of faith in our group", he explained. He emphasized the influence of coach Alfredo Berti: "Alfredo's trust has been very important for me, for my career, and for my game".

In another part of the conversation, he was asked if he considered himself the best current player in Argentine football. Far from putting himself on a pedestal, he avoided defining himself as the Top 1: "I don't put myself first, there are great players whom I respect a lot. I do my job, I have great respect for the careers of Leandro Paredes and Di María. I don't consider myself the best, but I work to be the best".

His arrival at Independiente Rivadavia and his personal conflicts

On another note, the Colombian also analyzed what his arrival at the Mendoza team was like amid a strong personal background. "I was not in a very good moment in my life. They told me that here I would be calm and that they would take care of me. I needed to come to Mendoza to mature and be reborn. I only have words of gratitude for the club and for the president", he shared.

In that vein, he also acknowledged past mistakes: “I made mistakes, I trusted people I shouldn't have trusted, but I am a person who believes in second chances and I have always been at the service of justice for everything they needed. Now I have a beautiful family.”.

The interest from River and the possible return to Boca

Amid his good performance, his name has resurfaced in the market. River tried to sign him in the last transfer window, although unsuccessfully. "There were calls, but they couldn't agree on the numbers. My job is to play football and if the opportunity arises to go to any club, I have to go to work. I think about the future of my family", he stated.

Villa does not rule out either a move to River or a return to Boca.

However, it was Boca that resonated the most in his statements. Villa left the door open for a return and revealed recent contacts: "I had the opportunity to talk to Chicho recently and we agreed to keep talking. Now I have to wait, sit down with my family and the president of Independiente Rivadavia, and we'll see what happens". And he made a statement that did not go unnoticed: "Riquelme can call me, I don't close the door on anyone".

The dream of playing in a World Cup

While he defines his future, the attacker also keeps his great goal intact: to represent Colombia in a World Cup. “I have been working for seven years to be in the national team, I have been pushing for a long time and for me the national team is everything. As a kid, I dreamed of being and playing in a World Cup,” he maintained.

"I have been working double shifts every day to be able to be there. Now I have to wait for the coach's decision, I keep working to be able to be there", he emphasized.

Villa's numbers at Independiente Rivadavia

Since his arrival at the Mendocino Lepra in mid-2024, the Colombian winger has played 6,786 minutes, distributed over 78 matches, in which he scored 11 goals, provided 23 assists, and received 12 yellow cards and one red for a second yellow card. In terms of titles, he was a key part of the squad that became champions of the Copa Argentina 2025.
