The socialist president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced in Kyiv a new military aid package to Ukraine worth 1,000 million euros, as part of the bilateral security agreement signed in May 2024 with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

This new package adds to the 1,000 million previously sent, as well as to the billions transferred by Spain to Ukraine through the European Union. Meanwhile, Sánchez grants these economic aids to Ukraine, the Spanish people are going through a tough economic situation and high taxes from the socialist regime.

The agreement, lasting 10 years, covers various areas of cooperation, including humanitarian assistance, the reconstruction of the country, and the pursuit of a "lasting peace" based on International Law.

Sánchez justified the new aid shipment arguing that diplomacy alone will not be enough to achieve peace in Ukraine. "We need to combine it with more strength and unity," he said on his X account.

He also reiterated that Ukraine's victory in this war is essential for the freedom, security, and future of Europe.

During his visit to Kyiv, Sánchez participated in the International Summit in Support of Ukraine, which commemorates the third anniversary of the intensification of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and reaffirmed Spain's commitment to the Ukrainian people.

Sánchez remarked that especially this was happening at a time when the United States president, Donald Trump, has shown his intention to negotiate peace with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, without involving Ukraine or the EU.

Sánchez's trip to Kyiv was supported by other Western leaders. Alongside the Spanish president, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, several European commissioners, and the president of the European Council, António Costa.

According to Moncloa sources, the messages of support for Ukraine from all leaders coincided in the need to increase military and humanitarian support to achieve a "just peace".

Sánchez took the opportunity to reiterate Spain's condemnation of Russia's war against Ukraine, describing it as a flagrant violation of the most basic human principles. "The war crimes committed by Putin's regime can't go unpunished," he stated, reaffirming Spain's commitment to continue supporting Ukraine as much as necessary.

In this regard, he highlighted that Spain will also contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine, promoting the creation of the necessary structures and encouraging Spanish companies to participate in this process.

One of the key points of Sánchez's speech was the need for Ukraine's full sovereignty. He emphasized that Ukraine must have the freedom to decide its future, and expressed Spain's firm commitment to its independence and its right to make its own decisions.

In this context, he highlighted the importance of Ukraine's accession to the European Union, noting that this incorporation would be the most important victory for the Ukrainian people and a crucial step for their future.

"Ukraine's hope is in Europe, but Europe's hope is also in Ukraine," Sánchez declared, conveying a message of little credibility to the international community.

Finally, the Spanish president acknowledged that there will still be difficult months ahead for Ukraine, but he was optimistic about the outcome of the war. "I am convinced that at the end of this terrible period, freedom and democracy will prevail over the logic of violence and authoritarianism," he concluded.
