Diego Borja, former Vice Presidential candidate for the Citizen Revolution, reappeared in Barcelona, Spain, after several days of uncertainty. The information became known thanks to a video posted by assembly member Esther Cuesta on the social network TikTok.

In the video, Borja greets from Europe and claims to be with Cuesta's "comrades and friends." His appearance comes after he reported irregularities during his departure from Ecuador via the Rumichaca International Bridge.

On April 15, 2025, Borja attempted to leave the country by land accompanied by his wife. According to his account, immigration officials tried to block his departure without legal justification, so he decided to continue to Colombia.

However, the Ministry of the Interior explained that the Correaist duo left the immigration control without completing the process and left their documents at the place. The institution reiterated that everything was carried out in accordance with the law.

Borja's quick departure, along with his appearance in Spain, reinforces a pattern already seen in Correaist leaders who evade legal processes within the country. Often, these departures are accompanied by claims of persecution, but without solid evidence.

Meanwhile, other political sectors have faced questioning within the institutional framework, which highlights significant differences in terms of responsibility and transparency.

The reappearance of Diego Borja in Europe, after his controversial departure through Rumichaca, once again reflects the tendency of Correaist leaders to evade processes under the discourse of victimization. In contrast, institutional stability requires assuming responsibilities without leaving the country.
