OpenAI announced a measure to strengthen intellectual property protection in the era of artificial intelligence. The company will allow rights holders to decide whether their characters can be used in Sora, its video generation platform powered by AI.
Additionally, it will implement a revenue sharing system for those who authorize the use of their content. The decision seeks to balance innovation and fair compensation for creators, according to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

Creators will be able to decide how their characters are used
Sam Altman explained that rights holders will be able to define in detail how and when their characters are used within Sora. They will also have the option to completely restrict their use, something that directly targets film and television studios.
According to Reuters, Disney has already chosen to block access to its library in Sora, an example of the growing debate over the use of protected material by AI. The goal, according to Altman, is to give creators real control over their content within the platform.
