Miguel Ángel Russo's tenure as Boca's coach appears to have marked a definitive turning point in Exequiel Zeballos's situation, as he hasn't played again since being substituted in the first half against Auckland City during the Club World Cup.
Although he could be among those drafted for the upcoming clásico against Racing, Changuito is no longer a priority for the coach, and his future at the club is uncertain. In this context, his departure in this transfer window isn't ruled out.

A few months ago, an offer from Saudi Arabia was rejected, but now a more attractive option has emerged for the forward: Elche of Spain, recently promoted to LaLiga, has started talks to sign him.
The information was revealed by Spanish journalist Cristian Egea, who specializes in the current affairs of the Iberian team: "Elche has started talks with Boca for the signing of the 23-year-old winger, Exequiel Zeballos. A young player with potential and whose characteristics are appreciated by the ownership and coaching staff".

Zeballos hasn't participated in the first three rounds of the Torneo Clausura or in the Copa Argentina match against Atlético Tucumán. In several matches, he was even left out of the squad.
The forward has a contract with Boca until December 2026, and the club would only let him leave if an offer comes close to the release clause, set at 15 million dollars.
Meanwhile, the player is considering his options. Europe appears to be a tempting exit, and Boca is evaluating whether this is the right time to transfer a player who, although promising, has lost ground in the coach's consideration.
