The relationship between River and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) is going through one of its most tense moments, and the differences between both institutions are leading to new public clashes. In the midst of this scenario, Stéfano Di Carlo spoke out about the choice of La Bombonera as the venue for the friendly match between the Argentine National Team and Uruguay, and made his stance clear regarding the historical link of the national team with the Monumental Stadium.
In an interview with Radio La Red, the president of the Millonario clarified that he has no issue with the match being held at Boca's stadium, although he questioned the background of the decision and pointed fingers at Claudio Tapia, the disreputable head of the AFA. "I am not bothered that Argentina and Uruguay is played at La Bombonera. Obviously the home of the National Team was, is, and will always be River. Then there are exceptional circumstances that occur; many times it has also been held outside of River and no, I don't find it resonant", he expressed.
However, the leader marked a difference compared to other occasions when the Albiceleste left the Monumental, leaving a criticism that seemed directed at the management of Argentine football: "Sometimes when people think they are more important than history, the strength of institutions, they make a mistake".
