Cameron's perspective on AI in cinema
Cameron explained that when working with visual effects, it is essential to build a creative culture, not just a technical one. For him, teams must think about the narrative and the meaning of each shot, beyond digital precision.
"That's what brings the story to life. That magic can't come from an algorithm. We need our artists", the director emphasized when speaking about the difference between human work and what Generative AI offers.
The example of Avatar and the value of humanity
The director said that during the production of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the team achieved such a solid dynamic that many scenes were completed in the first review.
According to Cameron, that result was possible because the artists understood the story behind every detail. "AI doesn't have that level of sensitivity. Only a human being can give a film its soul", he stated.
A future with artists in charge
James Cameron reaffirms his commitment to art and the essential role of creators in the film industry. His message points to a future where technology accompanies, but doesn't replace, human imagination.
