Workers renovating the basement of an old brewery in Belgium found bars and coins of gold hidden inside a wall.
The discovery occurred in Sint-Gillis-Dendermonde and is estimated to be worth 39 million. Authorities are investigating its origin and who the owner is.

How they found the hidden treasure in the wall
The discovery occurred while workers were preparing the building to install new sewer pipes. The work was being done in the basement of an old brewery.
An 18-year-old student named Kobe and a classmate were breaking a wall when they found what initially appeared to be common coins.
As they continued working, gold bars began to appear. At that moment, they realized it was a stash that could be worth a fortune.

The treasure is under the custody of Belgian authorities
The workers belonged to CAW Oost-Vlaanderen, a social assistance organization working in the region. Instead of taking the pieces, they reported the find and contacted the police.
Belgian authorities secured the gold found and transferred it to a heavily guarded vault. It will remain there while investigators attempt to establish its provenance and who has rights to the treasure.

For now, it is unknown who hid the gold inside the wall of the old brewery and why they chose to conceal it there.
