Suspect: the president and vice-president of Central Córdoba, a club close to Toviggino, resigned for 'personal reasons'

Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero is going through troubled hours after the resignation of its president, José Félix Alfano, and the first vice-president, Víctor Paz Trotta, in a scenario crossed both by the football crisis and by the institutional and political factors that surround the club.

In an official statement, the institution reported that both dismissals occurred "for personal reasons, totally unrelated to institutional life" and that they were accepted by the board of directors. As a result, the second vice-president, Hernán Zanni, will assume the presidency on an interim basis until the end of the year, when the term of office of the current leadership ends

The club sought to convey institutional peace of mind: “The board of directors reaffirms its commitment to continue working with responsibility and unity, redoubling its efforts to strengthen each of the areas of the club. Central Córdoba will continue to focus on its objectives, with the conviction of representing in the best way the first big one in the interior

However, the waivers do not go unnoticed, since they take place simultaneously with the judicial processes involving Pablo Toviggino, treasurer of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia's right hand man, which aroused suspicion about the real background of the management decision

The Santiago club has historically been noted for its closeness to Toviggino, to the point of being considered within its sphere of political influence in the province. In this context, questions have also arisen about alleged sporting and arbitration benefits, as well as about the assembly of squads through schemes linked to their environment, in a context where measures such as the suspension of relegations were even discussed in recent seasons

Strictly speaking, the team, now led by Lucas Pusineri after the departure of Omar De Felippe, has accumulated several negative results, placing itself outside the qualifying zone in the Apertura Tournament and re-committing to staying. The defeat against Vélez was the last blow before leaving the leadership

The Alfano cycle, which began in 2018, had important milestones such as his promotion to Primera in 2019, the runner-up in the Argentine Cup against River that same year, the award in 2024 against Vélez and the final of the Argentine Super Cup 2025, in addition to adding his first international appearances, with a memorable victory against Flamengo in the Maracaná for the Copa Libertadores.
