The series will be played on November 14, 15, and 16 at the Córdoba Lawn Tennis Club

In detail, the capital city of Córdoba was selected by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) as one of the seven global venues that will host the Playoffs of this prestigious tournament, following a bid submitted by the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT) to host this stage, which will feature 21 nations from around the world.

The ITF announced this after conducting the draw for the seven playing zones at its offices in London.

Mercedes Paz's team will be part of Group C along with Slovakia and Switzerland.

The series will be played on November 14, 15, and 16 at the Córdoba Lawn Tennis Club in the provincial capital, in a best-of-three format (two singles and one doubles).

This way, the best international women's tennis returns to the country through the most important team competition in the sport, now with a renewed format.

How the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup is played

The winners of the seven zones will advance to the 2026 Qualifiers, the stage prior to the competition's Final 8.

The remaining 14 teams will compete in the Regional Group I events next season.

Agustín Calleri, president of the Córdoba Sports Agency, highlighted the importance of hosting this major sporting event in Córdoba.

"We are very pleased to be able to welcome this top-level women's tennis competition to our province. Córdoba is a province that is prepared to host international competitions of the highest level, which allow the entire creative economy to be set in motion," he said.

Mercedes Paz, captain of Las Guerreras, also celebrated the announcement.

"As we said after securing qualification in Guadalajara, this year our goal is to advance to the stage we have come so close to in recent years. We will face two very tough opponents, but we also have a very solid team and the incomparable energy of playing at home. Also, this time, the schedule works in our favor, because the Playoffs will coincide with the South American tour, so we hope to field the best possible team," she stated.

International women's tennis in Córdoba

Córdoba hosted the BJKC for the first time in 2021, in a series played at the same club and marked by restrictions imposed by Covid-19.

After that first attempt, Argentina had four other unsuccessful chances in its quest to reach the Qualifiers.

In 2022, it lost to Brazil at home, in 2023 to Slovakia away, and in 2024 again to Brazil, this time away from home.

In April of this year, it finished in second place in Americas Group I to qualify once again for the Playoffs.

The selection of Córdoba as a host city reinforces the work the province has been doing to position itself as a venue for Major Events.

The BJKC joins those held this year, such as the Motocross World Championship, the return of TC to Cabalén, challenges like Río Pinto, Vuelta Altas Cumbres, international matches, and the major concerts held at Kempes, among others.

What is the Billie Jean King Cup in tennis

Known as the Federation Cup (1963-1995) and Fed Cup (1995-2020), the BJK Cup was founded in 1963 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

It is the largest international team competition in women's sports. It was renamed with the aim of "aligning with a global icon who has dedicated herself to fighting injustice, inequality, and discrimination in all its forms."
