African football, especially in Ghana, was shocked after the assassination of Dominic Frimpong. The 20-year-old Berekum Chelsea soccer player was killed in a violent assault on his team's microphone while returning from a local Premier League game

.

The attack occurred on the Bibiani-Goaso highway, near Ahyiresu, when the squad was returning from Samreboi after playing a match against Samartex. In a statement, the club detailed what happened: “On our way back to Berekum from Samreboi, our bus was attacked by a group of armed assailants who blocked the road to prevent our passage. Masked men armed with pistols and assault rifles began shooting at our bus while the driver

tried to reverse.”

In the midst of the shooting, players and members of the coaching staff escaped to areas of vegetation for shelter. However, Frimpong was shot in the head before he could get off the microphone. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he died

soon after.

On the other hand, some local reports indicated that, after the attack, several members of the squad remained missing for several hours while seeking refuge in the woods

, although no more fatalities were confirmed.

Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea in January of this year, on loan from Aduana Stars, and so far this season he had scored two goals in 13 games. The Ghana Football Association dismissed him with a message of regret: "Dominic was a promising young talent whose dedication and passion for football reflected the spirit of

our league.”

The episode once again highlighted security problems in some regions of the African country and generated a strong shock throughout the football community.
