The Government of Javier Milei revealed that the homicide rate in Argentina has recorded a decline during the first half of the year and reached a new historical low.
According to the presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier during a press conference on Tuesday, there were 738 homicide victims in the country from January to June, compared to the 822 recorded during the same period in 2025.
"The homicide rate continues to fall, down 10% in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year. There were 738 victims compared to 822 in 2025", Ravier stated while presenting the data.
The official also referenced the last year of the previous Kirchnerist administration. According to official figures, there were 1035 victims recorded in the same period of 2023.
In this regard, he stated that the number recorded during the first half represents a 41% reduction compared to that time.
In this line, he assured that the results position Argentina as the country with the lowest homicide rate in Latin America and the Caribbean. "Argentina is consolidating as the country with the lowest homicide rate in the entire region of Latin America and the Caribbean", he affirmed during his presentation.
Cell phone blocking in provincial prisons
Another announcement made during the conference was related to the use of cell phones inside prisons. Ravier reported that Enacom will expand the cell phone blocking system to provincial penitentiary facilities that adhere to the national protocol.
In this way, provincial prisons will be able to join the scheme established by the Government of Javier Milei to prevent the use of cell phones within the federal penitentiary system. The measure aims to prevent incarcerated individuals from continuing to engage in criminal activities from prisons using mobile devices.
"A cell phone in the hands of a prisoner is a weapon. The National Government has decided to expand the scope of cell phone blocking to all provincial prisons whose jurisdictions adhere to the national protocol", the official expressed.
