The Democratic former president and his wife have received harsh criticism from Republicans for their refusal to appear before the lower chamber

The political controversy intensified again in Washington after Republican lawmakers claimed that Bill and Hillary Clinton have not agreed to appear before the House Oversight Committee to participate in depositions related to the congressional investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.
The absence of the former Democratic leaders has sparked strong reactions within Congress, especially from Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (Republican-Florida), one of the most visible voices in the debate.
Luna stated that, in her opinion, no concessions should be made for high-profile political figures, including the Clintons. She publicly criticized both for not coordinating a date for their testimonies and emphasized that Congress has demanded mandatory appearances in similar situations with other officials and advisers, especially during investigations led by Democrats in recent years.
"I don't believe there should be any kind of concessions for these people," Luna said, stressing that numerous allies of Donald Trumpwere subjected to strict conditions to testify.

With this comparison, she argued that equal treatment requires applying the same criteria to the Clintons. The legislator added that "Bill and Hillary Clinton should have to appear according to Congress's availability," recalling the logistical difficulties that committees usually face when scheduling depositions with multiple staff and advisers.
Luna also asserted that Democrats took for granted that the Clintons would agree to appear voluntarily without the need for a subpoena, which has now proven to be a miscalculation.
In her criticism, she also accused certain Democratic sectors of having "used Epstein's files as a political tool" in the past, particularly to attack President Donald Trump. "I will always choose the path of transparency," she insisted, defending the need for all relevant figures to be questioned under the same standard.

The subpoena for the Clintons
The United States House Oversight Committee issued formal subpoenas to take testimony from Bill and Hillary Clinton as part of the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking network.
The Republicans, who control the committee, also requested documents from the Department of Justice and subpoenaed former senior law enforcement officials, expanding the scope of the inquiry.
Although Bill Clinton has not yet been accused of any crime by Epstein's victims, his past relationship with the financier, before the case broke two decades ago, has once again become the subject of political scrutiny.
Lawmakers and society maintain that the Clintons must answer without evasions, since the committee has also subpoenaed Ghislaine Maxwell and demands full transparency in all connections linked to Epstein.
