The Chamber of Deputies is preparing for a week of intense parliamentary activity. The National Government will call a special session on Thursday 12 with the objective of addressing the Juvenile Criminal Regime bill. This is one of the central initiatives included in the agenda of extraordinary sessions promoted by President Javier Milei.
According to what was agreed in the meeting of bloc presidents, the consideration of the bill will follow an accelerated schedule. On Tuesday, the constitutive meetings of the key committees will be held from early in the day, while on Wednesday the plenary session of committees will take place to move forward with the signing of the reports. If there are no unforeseen events, on Thursday the text will reach the floor for debate and eventual preliminary approval.

The bill and the strategy of the ruling party
The initiative promoted by La Libertad Avanza takes up the report approved in committee in May of last year. The bill proposes lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 14 years, now incorporating a budget article demanded by the governors.
The objective of this addition is to guarantee the fiscal viability of the new regime, establishing that the Nation will cover the difference in costs that the provinces face when implementing the system.
With the new composition of the Chamber, the ruling party has a stronger position than in 2024, when it secured the report. The Government is confident it will gather the necessary signatures in committee and enough votes on the floor to insist on the same text. That report had already received partial support from opposition blocs, even with La Libertad Avanza in the minority.
